Following the testimonies from staff at the high-security Melrose prison last Tuesday and Wednesday, the process will continue next week at the NHRC headquarters in Ébène to hear from the officer in charge of Melrose prison on July 17, the day of the incidents.
Subsequently, the Fact Finding Committee will visit Melrose prison to hear from prisoners involved in the events of July 17.
The NHRC also plans to hear from the medical staff at the prison as part of the hearings.
As a reminder, CCTV footage from the prison center has been reviewed and secured by the National Preventive Mechanism Division (NPMD) of the NHRC.
The NHRC will provide regular updates regarding this investigation, which will culminate in a report and recommendations for the authorities.
