Theft of Rs 400,000 at SM Trading: Five Years in Prison for Jokertson Trompette and Three Years for Josias Savriacouty

On December 10, 2020, Jokertson Ludovic Trompette, wearing a mask, stormed into the SM Trading premises in Terre-Rouge and stole Rs 400,000. The 46-year-old resident of Quatre-Bornes has been sentenced to five years in prison. His accomplice, 39-year-old Josias Christophe Savriacouty from Sainte-Croix, has received a three-year prison sentence.

Jokertson Ludovic Trompette faced charges of theft but pleaded not guilty. Meanwhile, Josias Christophe Savriacouty pleaded guilty to complicity in the crime.

Magistrate Jade Ngan Chai King ruled both men guilty, noting that the crime occurred in broad daylight, in the presence of customers and a security guard. The cashier was threatened with a weapon, resulting in financial loss, as well as emotional and psychological distress.

The stolen money has never been recovered. Both defendants had previously been convicted for similar offenses.
