Missing Person in Curepipe: A Sixty-Year-Old Found Dead in a Vacant Lot in Barkly

Jean François Célestine, a 65-year-old man, had been reported missing since May 1st. Two days later, his lifeless body was discovered in a vacant lot near the Colonel Maingard metro station in Barkly. At this stage of the investigation, there are no signs of violence, but the exact cause of death remains undetermined. Around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 3rd, authorities were alerted by the brother of the missing man, who was conducting the search himself. It was he who found Jean François in an abandoned field. The Barkly police quickly arrived at the scene, located about 150 meters from the metro station.

Upon arrival, officers found the body of the sixty-year-old lying face down. Jean François Célestine was wearing a gray jacket, a pair of jeans, and brown sandals. His identity was confirmed by his brother, who had reported him missing to the Curepipe police on Thursday, May 1st. According to him, the unemployed man, known for his dependency issues, had not been seen for several days. While continuing his search in the Barkly area, he ultimately discovered the body. Dr. Prem Chamane, a forensic doctor, was called to examine the scene. The body was later transported to the Victoria Hospital morgue for an autopsy. The post-mortem examination conducted on Sunday morning did not reveal the cause of death. The police have interviewed several local residents as part of the investigation, but no significant information has emerged yet. The body has been returned to the family for funeral arrangements.
