The ICT Minister Reaffirms the Key Role of Rodrigues Island in Digital Transformation
During his official mission to Rodrigues, the Minister of Information and Communication Technology and Innovation, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, presented the "Master Plan for Mauritius – A Bridge to the Future: Digital Transformation 2025–2029" to the commissioners and senior officers of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The action plan outlines an ambitious, smart, and inclusive roadmap to accelerate digital transformation across the Republic of Mauritius – including Rodrigues – over the next five years. In his presentation, the minister highlighted the strategic pillars and enablers of the national digital agenda: connectivity, digital governance, innovation, artificial intelligence, digital literacy, cybersecurity, data protection, and smart infrastructure.
Dr. Avinash Ramtohul emphasized that Rodrigues is a full partner in this national vision, reaffirming the government's unwavering commitment to ensure that every Rodriguan is actively engaged and empowered in this digital journey.
"We are building a digital future where every Rodriguan has access, opportunity, and a voice,” stated Dr. Ramtohul. He elaborated on key projects for the deployment of smart public services, digital skills development programs, and the promotion of local talent and entrepreneurship.
This session marks the beginning of a series of consultations with local authorities and stakeholders. Additional working sessions are planned to ensure that the plan is implemented with local input and aligned with the specific needs of Rodrigues.
The visit underscores the government's determination to bridge digital divides, stimulate regional development, and harness the power of technology to transform the lives of every citizen.
