Apple traditionally launches its new smartphones in September, and a specific date is starting to emerge.
According to internal documents obtained by the German site iPhone-Ticker, it is believed that Apple’s fall keynote, dedicated to the iPhone 17, is set for Tuesday, September 9, which is just over a month away. This is a credible prediction, as the conference has rarely occurred outside the second week of September.
As usual with Apple, the release of the new generation of iPhones will happen in two phases. First, there will be the announcement, likely on September 9, followed by pre-orders starting the following Friday, September 12. Consumers will then have to wait a week until September 19 for the products to be available.
The press typically has access to the iPhones at the time of their commercial launch, with a few exceptions like the American site The Verge or BFM Tech in France. Therefore, the first technical tests will be public by the end of September.
This prediction from the German site aligns with that of the well-informed Mark Gurman, who was betting on Monday, September 8. Last year, the iPhone 16 was announced on September 9 and released on the 20th of the same month.
This year marks a significant shift for Apple. In line with the bold iOS 26, which introduces a completely new design (which has been somewhat divisive so far), the brand is preparing to phase out the iPhone Plus to make way for the iPhone 17 Air. This new model is expected to capture attention at the conference. Positioned between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it is anticipated to impress with its record thinness, which some rumors suggest is even more remarkable than the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge (5.8 mm).
This new device will, of course, be accompanied by a standard iPhone 17, which should closely resemble the iPhone 16, as well as the traditional duo of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which are expected to feature a new design (especially regarding the cameras). All models this year could come with a 120 Hz display, a feature previously reserved for the iPhone Pro.
Additionally, we can expect improved performance and various new features in photography. Apple is also expected to unveil new functions related to Apple Intelligence, as the company now aims to develop a true chatbot. Lastly, we will be on the edge of our seats to discover the pricing, which is unlikely to remain stable due to the ongoing trade war between the United States and the rest of the world.
