Discussions between Mauritius and Cambridge on the Revision of the Curriculum for Grades 7 to 9

The Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, announced that discussions have begun with Cambridge regarding a potential revision of the curriculum framework and assessment framework for lower secondary education, specifically for Grades 7 to 9.

Accompanied by the director of the Mauritius Institute of Education (MES), he emphasized the need to align the educational standards to better prepare students for the School Certificate (SC) examinations.

“There was a slight gap in terms of level and preparation... I pointed out that it is important to raise the standards to better equip students for the SC exams,” he stated. The discussions also covered the introduction of new subjects into the curriculum.

Mahend Gungapersad participated in the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards ceremony at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka on Monday morning. This annual event honors the top students at the IGCSE, AS Level, O Level, and A Level. The awardees, recognized for High Achievement, Top in Mauritius, and Top of the World for the academic year 2024, received congratulations from the minister, who encouraged them to maintain the same level of rigor and discipline in their studies.
