CIEL Ferney Trail: Registration Closes This Tuesday, August 19th

The CIEL Ferney Trail event for 2025 is scheduled for September 13th. The registration deadline is this Tuesday, August 19th. Four courses are available again: Sunlife 5km Fun Run, CIEL 10km, Bank One 18km, and C-Care 35km. Registrations and course details can be accessed on the ROAG platform (roag.org).

This event attracts between 3,500 and 4,000 participants each year across its four race trails, without crossing into the conservation area of the endemic forest in the Ferney Valley.

The 18th edition will feature two joƫlettes on the CIEL 10km course. The CIEL Ferney Trail has been a pioneer in the use of joƫlettes at such events in Mauritius, maintaining a presence every year (except in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions that led to a limited version of the event).

A child with a disability has been able to experience the fascinating landscapes of one of the races and the atmosphere at the start and finish, as well as along the trails, with participants offering encouragement.

A joƫlette is a special seat on a wheel, equipped with sturdy handles that allows walkers to carry and guide a person with a physical disability seated on the seat over difficult terrain. Volunteers take turns standing in front and behind the joƫlette to hold the handles and push or pull, while others help prevent falls.

The joƫlette present at the CIEL Ferney Trail has been loaned to the organizers by the RodTrail association from Rodrigues since 2017, with the participation of two of its members in carrying the seat, in collaboration with Mauritian volunteers. In 2024, the CIEL Ferney Trail organizers donated to the Mauritian association Rando Trail and Nature (RTN) to acquire a joƫlette that would remain permanently in Mauritius and be used by RTN for any occasion to benefit a child with a disability. This RTN joƫlette has been used several times since 2025.

"Ferney Ltd has always been attentive to the social and economic development of the southeast of Mauritius, as well as to the preservation and extension of the rich natural and ecological heritage of this region, in collaboration with dedicated organizations and individuals operating in this part of the island, as well as with the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation and international NGOs. Hosting the CIEL Ferney Trail every year, which celebrates sports, nature, and solidarity, also allows us to implement these strong values," says Luke Maurel, Head of Business Unit at Ferney Ltd.

"Additionally, we are preparing a long-term integrated and responsible development project under the concept of Tropical Agrihood within the Ferney estate - without touching the protected area of the endemic forest," he adds.
