Explosion on a Coal Cargo Ship in Baltimore: Delays Expected for Mauritius

An explosion occurred on a coal cargo ship bound for Mauritius on Monday evening, shortly after its departure from the port of Baltimore, USA.

The W Sapphire, registered under the Liberian flag and operated by a Greek shipping company, suffered significant damage to its bow due to the blast after leaving the Curtis Bay terminal.

According to international news reports, there were no injuries among the twenty-five crew members. The ship is currently under the watch of the US Coast Guard.

A response from the Mauritian authorities is anticipated, as delays in the delivery of coal to Port Louis now seem inevitable.
