Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will undertake an official visit to India from September 9 to 15. The highlight of this trip will be in Varanasi on September 11, where he will meet for the first time with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This was reported in an online article by the daily newspaper The Statesman on Tuesday, August 19.
The bilateral meeting will primarily focus on cooperation in strategic areas such as trade, technology, and tourism. This will be the first of its kind between a Mauritian Prime Minister and the head of the Indian government in Kashi.
During his stay, Navin Ramgoolam will be welcomed with honors at Babatpur Airport. His itinerary includes visits to the Shri Kashi Vishwanath and Baba Kalbhairav temples, as well as major cultural sites like Sarnath and the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The Prime Minister will also participate in the traditional Ganga Aarti ceremony.
An official dinner will be hosted in his honor by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel, and the Chief Minister of the State, Yogi Adityanath.
Additionally, the central government has appointed Commissioner Raj Lingam as the liaison officer responsible for coordination and protocol. He clarified that the detailed program for the visit to Kashi will be communicated later.
It is noteworthy that Kashi is one of the ancient and traditional names for Varanasi, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, northern India, along the banks of the Ganges River. It is a sacred city in Hinduism, also known as Benaras.
