Komiko Celebrates 30 Years: 8-Year-Old Asiiya Amdanee Shares Behind-the-Scenes of an Unforgettable Stage Adventure

On August 30, Asiiya Amdanee, an 8-year-old student in Grade 4 at Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes school in Rose-Hill, had an extraordinary artistic experience by joining the Komiko troupe for their 30th-anniversary performance. On stage at the Trianon Convention Centre, she took on the role of Mario and Maria's young stepdaughter in the iconic play "Kel Fami" and won the audience's hearts. Videos shared on social media quickly generated a buzz, attracting thousands of enthusiastic reactions.
Asiiya joined the troupe through her mother, an employee of Komiko. "From a young age, she showed a keen interest in performing, singing, and dancing. It was during an audition organized by Miselaine Duval, the troupe’s founder, that Asiiya had the chance to shine. Everything fell into place naturally," recounts her mother, Sherazade.
In "Kel Fami," a classic comedy that has entertained Mauritians for years, Asiiya played Mégane, a pivotal role. The rehearsals were intense, but the young actress embraced them with enthusiasm. Under the guidance of Miselaine Duval and with her mother's support, she learned to refine her performance while building her confidence on stage. "I rehearsed with the other actors, Ms. Miselaine guided me, and mom supported me at home. It helped me be better prepared, and it was easier," she explains.
On the big day, despite a little nervousness at first, Asiiya quickly regained her confidence in front of the large audience at Trianon. "At first, I was a bit scared, but as soon as I stepped on stage, I felt comfortable. When I delivered my line 'C’est pas ou problème' and the audience started laughing, I was very happy," she confides.
This role marks a new chapter in her young career. Although this was her second performance with Komiko (after the one at the Théâtre de Belle Rose earlier this year), she feels she has learned a lot. "This time, I had more experience and I learned even better how to make people laugh," she proudly shares.
Her family, especially her mother, is filled with joy. "Seeing Asiiya on stage, enjoying herself and sharing laughs with the audience, is a great pride for me. My son also laughs a lot when he sees her perform. It’s a joy to watch her thrive like this," shares an emotional Sherazade.
August 30, 2025, will remain a memorable date for Asiiya. This experience has boosted her confidence and her desire to pursue this path. Next January, she will join the Komiko academy to hone her craft. For her, theater is more than a passion: it’s also a way to learn and grow. "My biggest dream is to entertain people, to make them laugh, but I also need to work hard in school," she concludes with a smile.
