Teachers’ Day: Why It Matters
Teachers. A simple word, yet it carries the weight of countless responsibilities and expectations.
For many, teachers are viewed as individuals who merely care for children. When a child misbehaves in class, society quickly points fingers at the teacher, questioning what the child is learning at school. When a child misbehaves at home, parents again ask, "Is this what your teacher is teaching you?"
However, the truth is that without teachers, no other profession would ever have existed. Doctors, engineers, lawyers, scientists — each of them was once a student in a teacher's classroom.
Today, teachers are treated like ordinary employees struggling to make ends meet. When they offer private lessons, whether out of passion or to cope with the cost of living, they are harshly judged.
After a month of vacation, parents eagerly pray for school to reopen, as they cannot manage their child. Yet, we manage the classroom, complete the curriculum, and play the roles of guide, friend, mother, father, brother, sister, and psychologist.
Saying that teachers deserve this day does not mean other professions are any less important. Respecting a teacher means respecting knowledge, learning, and the foundations of society. When teachers lose respect, society loses much more than it realizes.
