Pink October: Patients from Link to Life Create a Collective Artwork Symbolizing Hope at Beau Plan

On September 30th, L’Aventure du Sucre transformed into a unique art workshop, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Terra Foundation in collaboration with Link to Life. Thirteen beneficiaries from the Northern branch of the NGO, currently undergoing treatment or in remission, participated in a recycling workshop led by designer Élodie Jacobée from Atelier Poisson Plume, under the theme "United by the Unique". The artwork was unveiled on October 1st during an official ceremony marking the launch of Pink October, a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, attended by Nicolas Maigrot (Managing Director of Terra), Anne Marie Bhurtun (President of Link to Life), Edwige Gufflet (Managing Director of L’Aventure du Sucre), Marie Annick Auguste (CSR Manager of Terra Foundation), Terra teams, and around thirty beneficiaries from Link to Life.

As a company deeply rooted in the local community, Terra places social responsibility at the heart of its actions. This initiative, highlighted by Marie Annick from Terra Foundation, aims to support a public health cause and promote values of respect, dignity, and solidarity. "At Terra Foundation, we believe that everyone affected by cancer deserves to be celebrated for their strength and courage. This day is our way of shining a light on their resilience and reminding everyone that together, we can create a true wave of solidarity and hope," she added.

On September 30th, the thirteen beneficiaries gathered at L’Aventure du Sucre, where they crafted roses from recycled fabrics collected from their partners, The Kreol Republic and The Good Shop. These flowers adorned the tree of life they created together, symbolizing hope, courage, and resilience.

The artwork was unveiled the next day during a day rich in activities: a guided tour of the museum, a friendly snack, and warm moments of sharing, recognition, and support. "Welcoming these beneficiaries at L’Aventure du Sucre and witnessing them create a piece from recycled materials was an incredibly moving moment. It shows that creativity is a real vector of solidarity and joy, and that everyone can leave a positive mark in their own way," emphasized Edwige Gufflet.

Beyond this anniversary, this meeting is intended to be a strong moment of solidarity and recognition for those affected by cancer. The event emphasizes the importance of seeing the person before the disease. "This theme reminds us that each journey facing cancer is different. We wanted this day to bring joy, sharing, and support to the beneficiaries and show the public that together, we can create a more humane and compassionate world for those in greatest need," stated Anne Marie Bhurtun.

This partnership with Link to Life is part of a broader initiative to support community projects. The Northern Link to Life NGO has been sponsored by the Terra group since 2009, and by the Terra Foundation since 2010. This collaboration began with sponsoring a space on Terra land at Mount, and then expanded to projects for children and women, including specific care and sports activities.

In recent years, the NGO has been located on Terra land behind the SSRN hospital to be closer to patients and regularly conducts awareness sessions within the group’s companies.

"I commend Link to Life for its important role among patients and for the awareness sessions, among other things. I reiterate our support so that the association can continue this essential work. Today, we celebrate the courage and fighting spirit of all those affected by this disease," concluded Nicolas Maigrot.

This activity concludes the celebrations marking the 15th anniversary of the Terra Foundation while officially launching the global Pink October campaign in Mauritius. The tree of life will be displayed at L’Aventure du Sucre throughout October, accompanied by a donation box to raise funds to support the cause. The collected amount will be donated to Link to Life.
