Murder of Manan Fakhoo: Trial to Begin in October 2026
The trial for the murder of Manan Fakhoo will be heard in a year, in front of the Assizes Court. The hearing is scheduled from October 5 to 16, 2026. However, before the proceedings commence, a crucial step must be taken: the selection of jurors.
Nine citizens will be called to sit alongside the judge. Their role will be to listen to witnesses, examine evidence, and, at the end of the hearings, determine the guilt or innocence of the accused.
To recall, Manan Fakhoo was shot dead on January 20, 2021, in Beau-Bassin. According to the investigation, two gunmen on motorcycles were recruited to carry out the plan. Among the accused are Yassiin Meetoo, who has chosen to cooperate with the police in exchange for a promise of immunity, and Multazaam Sadulla, suspected of being involved in a conspiracy involving several individuals.
A settling of scores is believed to be at the heart of the motive: revenge following the attack on internet user Fardeen Okeeb, attributed to associates of the victim.
Both men will be defended by Me Nabiil Shamtally, as well as Senior Counsel Narghis Bundhun and Rama Valayden.
