Africa Credit Rating Agency: "Mauritius Demonstrates Exemplary Political Commitment," Says Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre
On Monday, October 6, 2025, the Director General of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Ambassador Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr. Jyoti Jeetun, at her office in Ebène.
The meeting was part of the official designation of the Republic of Mauritius as the primary jurisdiction and headquarters of the Africa Credit Rating Agency (AfCRA).
It is noted that the African Union (AU) approved the establishment of AfCRA as an independent credit rating agency, led by the private sector, during its 44th ordinary session in July 2024. The APRM has been tasked, under the AU's mandate, with overseeing the establishment of AfCRA, which is envisioned as a credible alternative to existing global rating agencies, as it aims to provide credit assessments that more accurately reflect African economic realities.
As a result, all AU member states were invited to submit expressions of interest as part of the selection process to designate the primary jurisdiction for the registration of AfCRA and host the agency's headquarters. The Republic of Mauritius was ultimately chosen to fulfill this role.
In a statement following her meeting with the minister, Ms. Marie-Antoinette Rose-Quatre expressed her satisfaction with the political commitment demonstrated by Mauritius. "The success of Mauritius's bid to host AfCRA reflects the country's political commitment to this important initiative," she stated. She explained that the meeting with the minister focused on how both teams could collaborate to ensure the smooth operation of AfCRA.
She emphasized that the APRM, mandated by the AU heads of state, will oversee the operational setup of AfCRA, with Mauritius's role marking a significant first step in this process.
Furthermore, the ambassador explained that AfCRA will be a private sector-led entity, distinct from any AU body or institution. "Now that AfCRA has found a home in Mauritius, both teams will work together for its registration as a private sector-led entity," she noted.
