Ombudsperson Report: 333 Children Victims of Abuse, Neglect, and Bullying in One Year

The Ombudsperson has reported 333 cases of abuse, neglect, and bullying involving young children over the past year. These cases were documented by the Ombudsperson for Children, who released the annual report on Tuesday, October 7th.

The Ombudsperson highlighted several gaps in the protection framework for children with disabilities, especially those aged 3 to 5, who are not currently covered by existing legal protections.

Issues were also identified within the Children’s Act, which was passed in 2022. Concerns regarding the welfare of children from LGBT parents were also raised. The report criticized the Child Development Unit (CDU) for its shortcomings.

"The recommendations in this report must not be left to gather dust in a drawer," warned Aneeta Ghoorah, the Ombudsperson for Children.
