The TDB Group Celebrates 40 Years of Commitment to African Sustainable Development in Mauritius

The Trade and Development Bank (TDB Group) recently celebrated its 40th anniversary at a commemorative reception held at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Mauritius, attended by government officials, industry leaders, development partners, and investors.

Notable attendees included Dhaneshwar Damry, Deputy Minister of Finance; Désiré Vencatachellum, Director General of the Financial Services Commission (FSC); Sunil Benimadhu, Chief Executive of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius; as well as CEOs and senior representatives from leading Mauritian banks and businesses. Also present were Admassu Tadesse, President and CEO of the TDB Group, along with members of the Group's Board of Directors.

Founded in 1985 by member states of COMESA, the TDB Group has since expanded its presence across all sub-regions of the African continent, launching several subsidiaries and strategic units. This growth allows the Group to better meet the increasing needs of the continent with enhanced efficiency and impact while adapting to a constantly evolving economic environment.

Since Mauritius became a member of the TDB Group in 1991, the bank has financed numerous businesses based in Mauritius across key sectors such as agro-industry, fishing, energy, information and communication technologies, health, and financial services. Mauritius has also played a strategic role in the transformation, evolution, and growth of the Group, providing a solid platform from which the bank has pursued its expansion and impact in Africa.

Since 2013, the country has hosted one of the Group's main offices and, in recent years, the TDB Captive Insurance Company (TCI), along with various asset management activities of the Group, including ESATAL and ESAIF management companies and the flagship ESATF fund.

With over USD 58 billion disbursed across Africa over the past 40 years, the TDB Group is a regional multilateral financial institution that today serves as a significant force in the continent's endogenous development financing efforts.

The theme for the Group's 40th anniversary, "Innovative Solutions to Accelerate Sustainable Development," perfectly illustrates the mission and operational philosophy of the TDB Group. As it embarks on its fifth decade, the Group aims to strengthen its role as a catalyst by intensifying development financing, innovating further, and continuously aligning with its mission: to finance and promote trade, regional economic integration, and sustainable development in Africa, including through its activities in and with Mauritius.
