He Operated in the Toilets of the Gare du Nord: The Alleged Hooded Thief Captured by the Police
He had turned the toilets of the Gare du Nord into his hunting ground. Armed with a pocket knife, Dylan Joe B., 29, primarily targeted elderly individuals. His spree came to an end on Tuesday, October 7, thanks to a targeted operation by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) of Port-Louis North.
For several days, the police had received complaints regarding thefts occurring in the toilets of the station and around the Immigration fair. Investigators set up a surveillance operation to identify the perpetrator(s).
During a patrol, officers spotted a hooded individual heading towards the ladies' toilets. His presence caused panic among the female users, who fled the scene in haste. The officers immediately intervened and apprehended the suspect, identified as a resident of Résidence Barkly.
Upon his arrest, police discovered a pocket knife hidden in his clothing. Confronted with the accusations, Dylan Joe B. admitted to being aware of the illegality of possessing the weapon. "Sir, I know I have no right to have a knife," he reportedly said. As he attempted to flee during the search, he was quickly caught by officers led by Sergeant Aliphon, assisted by constables Ramkissoon, Lauthan, Applasawmy, and Mourade.
The pocket knife was seized as evidence. Dylan Joe B. was detained at the Trou-Fanfaron police station, where he will be questioned regarding other similar theft cases reported in the area. The investigation is being conducted by the Trou-Fanfaron police.
