Moka Court: Temporary Firearm Possession Charge Against Bruneau Laurette Dismissed

On Wednesday, October 8, at Moka Court, the temporary charge of firearm possession against Bruneau Laurette was dismissed. This decision was made by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Speaking on RadioPlus this afternoon, Bruneau Laurette described this decision as a "sacred and significant day," claiming that "justice has prevailed." He expressed that "three years of my life were stolen from me."

It should be noted that on September 26, the DPP's office announced the cancellation of temporary charges against Akil Bissessur, Avinash Bissessur, Doomila Devi Moheeputh, Bruneau Laurette, Jean Luca Ryan Laurette, and Vimen Sabapati. However, the DPP clarified that a final decision would be made within a reasonable timeframe after a thorough investigation is conducted. Only then, he added, will the office be able to issue an informed decision according to the law.

For reference, these six individuals were arrested by the now-defunct Special Striking Team (SST) between 2022 and 2023. Each faced temporary charges before various judicial bodies. They denied the allegations and claimed to be victims of "drug planting." Additionally, they filed complaints with the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). According to the DPP, "these are extremely serious allegations against police officers..."
