Illegal Transfer on MauPass: Porsche for Sale Online in 2024
The case of the fraudulent transfer of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S-Hybrid, valued at Rs 9.2 million, has taken a judicial turn. The vehicle, which was put up for sale online by its true owner, a British national holding a Resident’s Permit, in July 2024, was allegedly transferred illegally to a third party.
On Tuesday, October 7, he went to the headquarters of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) with his lawyer, Mr. Arshaad Inder, to complete his statement. He claims to have fallen victim to a scheme involving fraud, identity theft, and document forgery. According to him, an individual initially expressed interest in buying the vehicle for Rs 9.2 million. After providing a copy of the "horsepower" and his identification, the sale was canceled. A few weeks later, the owner discovered that his MauPass account had been hacked and that the ownership of the Porsche had been fraudulently transferred.
The scammer is said to have used fake documents, including a forged identity card and falsified signatures. The vehicle's insurance was also altered without the owner's knowledge. The deception was revealed on September 12, 2025, during the British national's visit to the brand's agency: staff informed him that the suspect had attempted to obtain a duplicate of the keys and presented a registration certificate in his name.
The owner also received anonymous threats targeting his family to retrieve the vehicle, reported to the Goodlands police on September 21. He possesses evidence, including emails, SMS messages, and the fake identity card used. The alleged fraudster, Liam Sohaye, 26, was arrested by the FCC on October 7. He is accused of fraudulently transferring the title of ownership of the Porsche. After a night in custody, he was provisionally charged on Wednesday with Fraud by False Representation under the FCC Act.
The Ministry Assures
In light of this alleged fraud case, the Ministry of TCI reminds that MauPass is a secure gateway allowing citizens to access online public services via a unique digital identity and "ensures secure access to public services." Additional verification and authentication mechanisms have been implemented to enhance the reliability of the process and prevent any identity theft attempts.
