Harassment, Scams, Sextortion: Youth on the Frontlines of Cybercrime

Harassment, scams, hacking, and sextortion: adolescents are increasingly affected by these scourges.

"Cybercrime is not virtual; it is real and can destroy lives," stated Minister Arianne Navarre-Marie during a workshop focused on adolescence and cybercrime at the Port-Louis Municipal Council on Thursday, September 9.

Cybercrime remains a growing epidemic, with 5,200 cases recorded in 2024.

Arianne Navarre-Marie expressed her hope that this workshop will lead to concrete proposals to enhance awareness and outline a national roadmap.

Meanwhile, ICT Minister Avinash Ramtohul reported that five cases of cybercrime are reported every day. He announced a revision of the legal framework to better protect victims.
