Hamas-Israel Agreement: Indian Prime Minister Congratulates Trump
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Thursday that he congratulated his "friend" Donald Trump for the "success of the historic peace plan" in Gaza during a phone call.
Speaking on social media, Mr. Modi added that he and the American president had also "reviewed the progress made in ongoing bilateral trade negotiations" after the United States imposed a 50% tariff on goods imported from India.
This measure, taken by Donald Trump due to India's oil purchases from Russia, which the Americans believe contribute to financing the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has strained relations between New Delhi and Washington.
On this note, the Indian leader emphasized that the two men agreed to remain "in close contact over the coming weeks."
India, an ally of Israel, supports Palestinian self-determination and advocates for a two-state solution.
