Murder of Mark Yeung Shi Yin, 74, in Baie du Tombeau: Murder Weapon Recovered by Investigators on Thursday

The investigation into the murder of businessman Mark Yeung Shi Yin, 74, is progressing. A blood-stained knife, identified as the murder weapon, was found in Coromandel. Five suspects, including the victim's eldest son, remain in police custody.

On Thursday, investigators from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) made a significant breakthrough in the murder case of Yeung How Fat (Mark) Yeung Shi Yin. They recovered a bloodied knife believed to be the weapon used in the crime. The five suspects arrested so far are currently detained under a provisional murder charge.

The MCIT officers went to Morcellement Chapman in Coromandel on Thursday after the suspects confessed. Following the incident, they had disposed of the weapon. Once retrieved, the knife was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.

Cédric Carré, 23, the fifth suspect to be apprehended in this case, recounted during his interrogation on Tuesday the events that shook an entire neighborhood and everyone who knew the victim. He admitted that he and a group led by Allan, the victim's eldest son, brought gasoline to destroy evidence.

However, the situation spiraled out of control. They had tied up and hooded the victim's 16-year-old son. The septuagenarian did not comply, leading to his assault. The 23-year-old claimed to have stabbed the victim twice, and another accomplice, Wayne Barry, also attacked the victim with several blows. They then set fire to the house before fleeing. The autopsy revealed that the businessman had suffered a severed carotid artery among his numerous stab wounds.

Wayne Barry was hospitalized after complaining of severe leg pain. Doctors discovered burns on both of his lower limbs. The young man also acknowledged that these injuries occurred while he was setting Mark Yeung Shi Yin's house on fire shortly after the murder. He was reportedly doused in gasoline at the time of the act.

These confessions support the theory of premeditated murder. The suspects have already been examined by a police doctor, and a reenactment of the events is expected in the coming days.
