Carjacking in Grand-Baie: Police Arrest Two Suspects
On September 25, a 59-year-old man from Goodlands became a victim of a carjacking. He was leaving the Pereybère area heading towards Cap-Malheureux when he was forced to stop due to heavy traffic. Two individuals took advantage of the situation to steal his personal belongings. The police apprehended the thieves.
Around 9 AM on September 25, the 59-year-old man was driving his car. He was leaving Pereybère for Cap-Malheureux when he had to stop because another vehicle halted in front of him. “There were other cars that stopped in front,” the driver recalls.
At that moment, he explains, a man and a woman entered his car. The woman took the front passenger seat while the man sat in the back. The duo allegedly attacked him. The driver recounts that without wasting any time, the man strangled him while the woman took his cell phone and wallet. “The man strangled me, and then the woman took my phone and wallet,” the victim states.
The driver attempted to resist the attack. However, due to the threat he faced, he immobilized the car and got out to seek help. “I managed to break free and got out.” The thieves fled the scene. The victim then went to the Grand-Baie police station to file a report, and the Northern Divisional Crime Investigation Unit launched an investigation.
They arrested the two thieves on Wednesday, October 8. They are Trevor Loïc Gérard Lindor, 25, a repeat offender living in Grand-Baie, and Marie Aniza Rabay, 30, a resident of Camp-Carol in Grand-Baie. They were interrogated and confessed. The driver formally identified his two attackers. A stolen cell phone was recovered.
The two suspects are facing charges of public theft before the Pamplemousses/Rivière-du-Rempart court. They participated in a reenactment of the events.
