Nearly five years after the tragic death of Soopramanien Kistnen, the case is taking a new turn. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam announced in the National Assembly on Friday, October 10, that the investigation into this murder will officially be reopened next month. Responding to a Private Notice Question from opposition leader Joe Lesjongard, the head of government confirmed that the latest expert analyses commissioned abroad dismiss any theories of accident or suicide. "He was indeed murdered," stated Navin Ramgoolam.

The former political agent was found burned in a sugarcane field in Telfair, Moka, in October 2020. Initially presented as a suicide, the case was reclassified as a murder in light of troubling evidence and a judicial inquiry that significantly shook public opinion.

The Prime Minister also announced a bill aimed at allowing collaboration with specialized international investigators in certain matters of national interest. This measure seeks to enhance investigative capabilities in sensitive and complex cases. Navin Ramgoolam acknowledged the scale of the security challenge while emphasizing the need for deep institutional reforms. "I do not have a magic wand. Reconstruction is a step-by-step process, but it is underway," he declared.
