Threatened by Phone: The Mother of an Inmate Demanded to Pay Rs 5,000

A 48-year-old woman, whose son is currently incarcerated at Beau Bassin prison, reported that she was at the central market on Friday, October 10, when she received a call. Her son briefly told her he was in trouble and then hung up.

At 2:33 PM, she received a second call from the same number. An unidentified man then issued the following threat: "Send me Rs 5,000 immediately. If you don't send it right away, your son will..."
