Sanjeev Teeluckdharry's Outcry
Sanjeev Teeluckdharry, an attorney involved from the early stages of the Kistnen case, has made a strong statement against the new Prime Minister's intentions to reopen the investigation into the death of former MSM agent Soopramanien Kistnen. A prominent member of the Avengers, a group of lawyers who exposed inconsistencies in the police investigation, Teeluckdharry believes that justice has already been served; what remains is the political will to apprehend those responsible.
He argues that any new attempt to revive the case would be "useless and costly." Teeluckdharry emphasizes the quality of the investigation that has already taken place. "The police inquiry was deliberately mishandled under orders from above, whereas the judicial investigation was flawless," he asserts.
Magistrate Vidya Mungroo-Jugurnath concluded that Kistnen’s death was a homicide, not a suicide, a clarification that invalidated the police's initial account of events. "The material evidence has been presented. The Minister of the Interior and the Prime Minister can rely on the magistrate's recommendations to proceed with arrests. There is no point in starting over from scratch," he states.
He recommends immediate attention to the three major revelations in the ‘Kistnen Papers’: fictitious employment, undeclared election expenses, and contracts awarded to the relatives of a minister during the COVID-19 period.
According to Teeluckdharry, the commitment to deliver justice will be measured by the promptness of action on these issues, rather than by announcing new investigations deemed unnecessary.
