Inauguration of the New Mapou Post Office
The new Mapou post office was officially inaugurated on Thursday, October 9, 2025, by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, as part of the celebrations for World Post Day 2025. The establishment of this new facility is part of ongoing efforts to modernize and decentralize postal services in Mauritius, ensuring greater accessibility and convenience for the public.
The inauguration ceremony brought together the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Research, Dr. Kaviraj Sukon, MPs Dr. Sandeep Prayag and Ram Etwareea, the Chairperson of Mauritius Post Ltd (MPL), Mrs. Lovena Sowkhee, the CEO of MPL, Anil Seeruttun, and other distinguished guests. The event also featured the launch of the first-day cover and commemorative stamp for Expo 2025 Osaka, celebrating Mauritius' participation in the World Expo in Japan, with the stamp being issued simultaneously in Osaka.
Operational for a month now, the Mapou post office offers a wide range of services, including parcel delivery, stamp sales, letter postage, mobile phone recharges (E-pin and E-voucher), and pension payments.
Currently, the post office serves approximately 300 customers and 72 retirees in the area. It is managed by a dedicated team of two employees and supported by two postal workers covering the areas of Mapou, Labourdonnais, and Cottage. The new facility, located in the Mapou Village Hall, was made possible through collaboration with the Rivière du Rempart Regional Council, following the relocation of the old building to a more accessible and modern space.
