During a Road Check in Caudan: A Motorcyclist Admits to Buying a Fake Driving License

A routine check by the Metro Team B led to a surprising discovery on the afternoon of Saturday, October 11, at the Caudan roundabout in Port-Louis. Police intercepted a 49-year-old motorcyclist from Port-Louis who presented a fake driving license. During questioning, the man confessed to having purchased this document in Plaine-Verte some time ago. After an investigation, he was released on parole, pending his indictment for forgery and use of a false document, scheduled for Monday, October 13.

The license appeared authentic: it included the photo of the motorcyclist, two stamps from the Traffic Branch, and a signature. However, police noticed an anomaly: the document allowed the driver to operate a motorcycle, an autocycle, and a car, all with the same issue date of April 5, 2002. Normally, each vehicle category requires a separate examination for obtaining the corresponding license.

License Revoked in 2011

A check in the Traffic Branch database revealed that license number 676118 actually belonged to a woman residing in the West. Faced with this information, the man panicked and admitted to having bought the license from a woman in Plaine-Verte, without remembering the amount or the date of the transaction. He also stated that his real license had been revoked by the police in July 2011.

At the Central Barracks, the suspect admitted his crime. "I agree, I bought the license, give me a chance," he told investigators. The fake license and the suspect's motorcycle were seized as evidence. The investigation has been handed over to the La Tour Koenig police.
