Victoria Urban Terminal Hosts Free Breast Cancer Screening Day

The fight against breast cancer is in full swing this October. The Victoria Urban Terminal (VUT) is actively participating by hosting a free screening day on Saturday, October 25, 2025, organized by Link to Life with the support of the Leal Group. The first fifty participants will receive a comprehensive examination and a consultation with a doctor on-site.

Breast cancer remains the deadliest cancer today, accounting for nearly 30% of cancer-related deaths in 2023, and is also the most common cancer among Mauritian women, representing approximately 38% of cases. These alarming figures are particularly concerning given that this type of cancer is one of the most treatable when diagnosed early. Therefore, this event at VUT will focus on raising public awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

As Arti Ram, General Manager of VUT, states, "It is essential that every woman has easy access to screenings and reliable information about breast cancer. Link to Life and others have been doing remarkable work in this regard for years, but there is still much work to be done. Many lives can still be saved if simple steps are followed and more women are encouraged to get screened regularly."

Selvina Moonesawmy, director of Link to Life, echoes this sentiment: "Early detection saves lives. According to statistics, the survival rate for patients exceeds 90% if the cancer is detected in its early stages. I therefore urge Mauritian women to come out in large numbers on October 25 at VUT to take care of their health." The free screenings will take place from 9 AM to 3 PM on the ground floor of VUT.
