Importation of 1,523.7 g of Heroin: Two South Africans Sentenced to 30 Years Each
The verdict was delivered yesterday at the Assizes. Two South Africans, Joel Methula and Lorrantia Ncwane, pleaded guilty to the importation of 1,523.7 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 22.9 million. Judge Mehdi Manrakhan, who presided over the trial, sentenced both defendants to 30 years in prison each.
The offense occurred on April 21, 2018, at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Joel Methula was 32 years old and Lorrantia Ncwane was 28 years old at the time of the incident.
