101,900 Mauritians Considered Poor
101,900 Mauritians are currently classified as poor. This figure was revealed by the Minister of Social Security, Ashok Subron, during a symposium in Côte d'Or, held on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
Currently, a family earning less than Rs 14,500 per month is categorized as living in relative poverty. "However, the government plans to revise this threshold," the minister stated.
Ashok Subron also mentioned the new Legal Aid law as an indicator for this revised threshold, which states that a couple with Rs 25,000 remaining after household expenses can now receive state support.
