Robbery in Curepipe: A Man Attacks the Receptionist of a Boarding School and Steals the Cash Register
A robbery occurred in the night between September 25 and 26 at a boarding school in downtown Curepipe. At around 3:30 AM, the receptionist, a 53-year-old man, was confronted by an individual armed with a knife.
The assailant intended to steal the cash from the establishment. The receptionist was in a room adjacent to the front desk when he heard a suspicious noise. Upon investigating, he came face to face with a masked man, approximately 1.75 meters tall, dressed in a gray polo shirt, pants, and jacket.
The robber was holding a black cash box containing around Rs 28,000. The employee shouted "Thief! Thief!" The assailant then brandished a knife, threatening him with the words: "I will stab you, I will cut you." The two men then grappled, resulting in the receptionist being injured in his left shoulder.
The robber then fled through the main door with the cash box. He headed towards the Garden Road on a motorcycle but left his helmet behind. The injured receptionist received treatment at the hospital and provided a description of the suspect to the police. Surveillance footage from the boarding school aided investigators.
Two weeks later, on October 15, detectives from the Curepipe Criminal Police apprehended a suspect in connection with the case. He is a 32-year-old man, currently homeless, who is being held at the Central Detention Center. He was arrested in a separate case. During his interrogation, the suspect confessed.
