On the night of Sunday, October 12, a collision in a supermarket parking lot in Vacoas led to a violent assault. Two men were targeted by four individuals – three men and one woman – after their vehicle collided with the car driven by the alleged assailants.
On Tuesday, October 14, armed with precise information, a team from the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) Central Division, led by DSP Jeeroburkhan, arrested two suspects aged 30 and 38 in Résidence Malherbes, Curepipe. The men confessed to the crime and were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for further investigation. One of them was also wanted in connection with another case from May. Other accomplices are still being sought.
The vehicle used by the suspects, a gray car, was found to be stolen. It was abandoned near the post office in Curepipe on Monday, October 13, by the Emergency Response Service (ERS). After a forensic examination, the car was returned to its owner.
According to initial reports, a 41-year-old municipal employee was reversing when his car accidentally hit that of the assailants. They exited their vehicle and attacked him and his friend, beating them before stealing Rs 3,000, some of which was on the dashboard.
Both friends were injured; one was admitted to the hospital. The investigation, conducted jointly by the CID of the Central Division and the Eau-Coulée CID, quickly identified the suspects, who were brought before the Curepipe court the following Wednesday.
