Natural History Museum: The SSR Exhibition Continues Until November 15
Natural History Museum: The SSR exhibition continues until November 15. Previously held at the Municipality of Port Louis, the exhibition dedicated to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam has now moved to the Natural History Museum in Port Louis. The launch took place on Friday, October 17.
Organized in collaboration with the Mauritius Museums Council, this exhibition is part of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Father of the Nation.
Open to the public until November 15, it invites visitors to (re)discover personal items of SSR, period photographs, and archival documents tracing his journey. Audiovisual excerpts generated using artificial intelligence, created with the participation of the Open University of Mauritius and Studio Esthetica, further enrich the experience.
Shiam Persand, president of the Mauritius Museums Council (MMC), praised the collaboration between cultural institutions and emphasized the importance of restoring the museum's central role in civic life. "This exhibition is not just a look into the past, but a vibrant way to pass on our history to younger generations," he stated.
The inauguration was also attended by members of the MMC board, artists, historians, and representatives from the Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund. The MMC operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Arts and Culture.
Shiam Persand also announced a series of upcoming exhibitions aimed at revitalizing the country's museums. After the SSR exhibition, a tribute will be paid to deceased Mauritian artists. Other projects are already planned until the end of the year, and a special exhibition will be organized in December at the Mahébourg Museum to commemorate the arrival of Mahé de La Bourdonnais.
The Chairman urged the public to visit the museum, especially young people and families: "This is a unique opportunity to rediscover our history, understand where we come from, and pay tribute to those who shaped the country."
