ICT Act Violation: Charges Dropped Against Hassenjee Ruhomaully

On Friday, October 17, 2025, the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions dismissed the charge of violating the Information and Communication Technologies Act against Hassenjee Ruhomaully, a company director. This outcome follows the sworn statement of former Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, Sherry Singh. However, the trial against Farihah Nassima Soobrattee-Ruhomaully, Hassenjee Ruhomaully's wife, remains ongoing.

On September 18, 2025, Sherry Singh stated that he no longer wished to proceed with his testimony in the case against the Ruhomaully couple before the Intermediate Court. The former MT CEO had filed a complaint against them on October 16, 2018, for defamatory remarks.

On October 17, 2025, Senior State Counsel Me Damodarsingh Bissessur requested the charges to be dropped against Hassenjee Ruhomaully "for want of prosecution." The motion was granted by Magistrate Kevina Poollay-Mootien. However, the prosecution's lawyer indicated that the trial would continue against Farihah Nassima Soobrattee-Ruhomaully. The case is set to be called again on October 24, 2025, with representation by Me Neelkanth Dulloo.

Hassenjee Ruhomaully, aged 63, was accused of using a mobile phone to post a message about Sherry Singh on a Facebook profile. His wife, Farihah Nassima Soobrattee-Ruhomaully, a 36-year-old graphic designer, allegedly used her personal laptop to display the message. The offense reportedly occurred on October 14, 2018.
