Radio Plus and Farmland - Diwali: Five Mauritian Families Receive Everything Needed to Celebrate the Festival

Radio Plus, in collaboration with Farmland, has set out to allow Mauritian families in need to celebrate Diwali with delicious cakes. On Friday, October 17th, they distributed essential ingredients to five families, enabling them to celebrate the festival in true tradition.

Farmland provided ingredient packs, Honor donated gift boxes, Thali supplied spices, and Radio Plus contributed rice to the recipient families.

The first stop for the Radio Plus team was at Plaines des Roches, visiting the Jogessur family. Nafiza Jogessur, a mother of three, expressed her joy at being able to prepare cakes for the festival. "I am very happy to have received the ingredients. I initially wanted to make sweet potato cakes, but now I can make more. This relief comes from receiving these ingredients," she shared.

Next, they headed to Roches-Noires, where they visited the Panchoo family. Suman, the mother of three, faces health issues that prevent her from working. Due to financial constraints, the family had not planned to prepare cakes this year, but this gesture changed their plans. "Life is not easy for us. We weren't going to make cakes this year, but now our plans have changed. The children are very, very happy. I thank Radio Plus and the sponsors from the bottom of my heart," Suman Panchoo said, her voice filled with emotion.

The team then visited Prakash and Sadna Mudhoo in Panchvati, in the north of the island. After an accident five years ago, Prakash cannot work, as he still awaits surgery on his leg. "Thank you very much. You came to my home and helped me. I am very happy. I will assist my wife as much as I can in preparing the cakes," said Prakash Mudhoo.

Still in Panchvati, the team continued their distribution at the Gor family home. Kavita Gor, a resident of the area for 30 years, explained that life is tough, and she had not planned to make cakes. "Now, I can prepare sweet potato cakes, badjia, and rasgulla. Thank you very much, you have helped me," she expressed with gratitude.

The last stop was at L’Espérance Trébuchet, at the Eckbur family home. Ashvina Eckbur, a mother of three, was pleased to expand her preparations for Diwali. "I had bought some simple ingredients, but with what I received, I can prepare other cakes like sweet potato cake and burfi," she said.

For Bhavna Goodorally, Head of Marketing at Edendale Distributors, this initiative, part of a collaboration lasting over ten years with Radio Plus, aims to bring joy and sharing to Mauritian families.

"Diwali is primarily a festival of sharing. With this contribution from Farmland, which consists of a lot of ingredients given to families, we wish to convey happiness and conviviality. It is heartwarming to see smiles on the faces of those we help. Farmland loves to bring joy to Mauritian families," she explained.

Dr. Vikram Nunkoo from the Anou Aide Nu Prochain association, who also participated in the event, highlighted the challenges faced by many families. "I am on the ground and aware of the situation for many families. I am very happy that through this gesture, we can bring them a little light," he said.
