Landing of the Malagasy Private Jet - Bhadain: "An Investigation into Phone Exchanges is Necessary"

Landing of the Malagasy private jet raises serious questions about state management. Although an investigation has commenced, the leader of the Reform Party, Roshi Bhadain, expresses concern over numerous uncertainties surrounding the situation.

"Paul Bérenger claims to be unaware, yet the plane was treated as if it were an official flight. We need to know who gave the orders," said Bhadain at a press conference on Saturday, October 18. He insists that only a thorough investigation into the calls and communications between the involved services can clarify this matter. "The Civil Aviation and the Prime Minister's office must explain who facilitated this process."

Another topic addressed was the energy crisis. Bhadain highlighted that the current situation reflects a governance and anticipation issue. "In 2025, it is unimaginable that people still have to endure power cuts due to a lack of a solid plan to ensure energy productivity," he stated. Load shedding has become a daily term, symbolizing a failure in sector management, he lamented.

This is a direct consequence of a lack of long-term planning, Bhadain continued. "It is the responsibility and duty of a government to provide basic services to its people, who elected it democratically," he added. "During the electoral campaign, they promised to reduce electricity prices, but today they are cutting electricity instead."

He believes that Mauritians should not be penalized due to "the interference of certain individuals" in energy sector management.

Bhadain also criticized the situation at the Central Electricity Board (CEB), which has been without a chairman for nine months. He lamented the reappointment of Shamshir Mukoon as General Manager, arguing that this shows a lack of willingness for reform. "It is a strategic institution, but it lacks clear leadership."

Declining Purchasing Power

The leader of the Reform Party also commented on the cost of living and tax pressure. He denounced the impact of the 15% tax and advocated for relief measures aimed at small businesses making less than Rs 3 million in profit. According to him, the promises made during the electoral period have not materialized. He expressed concern over the deterioration of household purchasing power. "It is serious when you hear people say they can no longer eat as before and are having to make sacrifices. This is a warning signal that reveals many anomalies in the system," he pointed out.

Roshi Bhadain reaffirmed that the Reform Party will continue to denounce abuses and propose concrete reforms for a more transparent system. "You can change the government, but not change the system," he summarized, believing that true change will only come when a culture of accountability replaces that of impunity.
