Jubilee for Victims of Violence: Bishop Jean Michaël Durhône Calls for an End to Indifference, a Form of Violence

Celebrating the Jubilee for victims of violence is a way to show solidarity from the Church, stated Bishop Jean Michaël Durhône. He spoke during the opening mass marking the start of a week dedicated to reflections on violence in all its forms at Sainte-Hélène Church in Curepipe on Sunday, October 19.

The bishop of the Port-Louis diocese urged society not to remain indifferent to the suffering of victims of violence. He emphasized that violence exists in all communities and affects more than just one group of people.

For him, the Jubilee is a path of hope that requires solidarity and perseverance among institutions. "Prayer is not enough; actions are necessary," declared the bishop, calling for concrete measures to end violence in all its forms. He insisted that we cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of victims and their families.

In his message for this Jubilee, Bishop Durhône highlighted the importance of dedicating a special moment to victims of violence, whether physical or psychological, as acknowledging their pain and dignity is an act of justice and humanity.

Throughout this week dedicated to victims of violence, as part of the Jubilee of Hope, several activities are planned, including roundtable discussions, a performance to say no to violence, a couples' evening, a children's day, and a youth day focused on school bullying, among others.
