Gaza: Civil Defense Reports 45 Deaths from Israeli Strikes on Sunday

Gaza's Civil Defense has reported at least 45 fatalities on Sunday due to Israeli airstrikes in the Palestinian territory, revising an earlier toll of 33 deaths upwards.

The Israeli army stated that it targeted dozens of Hamas positions throughout the Palestinian territory, with both Israel and Hamas accusing each other of violating a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, which has been in effect since October 10.

"At least 45 individuals have been killed due to Israeli airstrikes on several locations in Gaza," reported Mahmoud Bassal, the spokesperson for the Civil Defense, which operates under Hamas authority.

Four hospitals in the Palestinian territory confirmed the death toll of 45 to AFP, stating they had received both deceased and injured individuals.

Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat reported 24 deaths, Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah had 12, Nasser Hospital in Khan Younes reported five, and Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City noted four.

Dozens of injured patients have also been treated at these hospitals. The Israeli army informed AFP that it was verifying reports regarding the airstrikes.

Among the victims, Mr. Bassal noted six individuals were killed when an Israeli strike targeted "a group of civilians" in the city of Zuwaida (central region).

He also reported two other Gazans, including a journalist, killed in the western part of this city.

Two separate strikes resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including children, near Nuseirat (central region), and injured 13 others, he stated.

He also mentioned a woman and two children who were killed in a drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced persons in northern Khan Younes (southern region).

In the evening, the Israeli army announced it would cease airstrikes and resume adherence to the ceasefire.

Due to restrictions imposed on media in Gaza and challenges accessing the ground, AFP is unable to independently verify information from the different parties involved.
