Abandoned Cats: Help is Delayed

Abandoned Cats: Help is Delayed

For over a week, Philippe, a resident of Coromandel, has been trying to get assistance from the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) regarding several stray cats that have been born on a vacant lot near his home. Despite his efforts, no concrete action has yet been taken.

"I reported the situation from the beginning so that the animals could be rescued and placed in a safe environment. A staff member assured me that a team would come, but more than a week has passed and nothing has happened," he laments.

According to Philippe, the situation has become alarming. He explains that he has personally tried to help these vulnerable animals, but without support, things have gone awry.

"I have done everything to seek help, both from the authorities and from animal welfare organizations. Unfortunately, one cat ended up dying. This prompted me to alert Radio Plus through the Explik Ou Ka team, as I find the lack of response unacceptable," he confides.

Contacted during the Explik Ou Ka show on Radio Plus, Tinagaren Govindasami, director of the MSAW, thanked Philippe for his commitment.

"It is unfortunate that no one has come to his aid quickly. As much as possible, we rescue stray animals, whether they are dogs or cats. However, we often lack space in our shelters. In some cases, we arrange for temporary placements," he explained.

The director added that a team will be dispatched to Coromandel on Monday to deal with the reported stray cats. "I will personally ensure that Philippe is contacted. We will do what is necessary to rescue the animals as soon as possible," he assured.

Philippe hopes that the promise will be kept. Above all, he wishes for these cats to finally be taken into a safe environment, away from suffering and abandonment.
