World Tourism Day: Vatel Mauritius Committed to Sustainable and Responsible Tourism

To celebrate World Tourism Day, which takes place on September 27 each year, Vatel Mauritius has organized various activities to emphasize the importance of sustainability in the hotel and tourism industry. This year's theme, "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation," guided all initiatives, bringing together students, teachers, and staff around both educational and practical actions.

The program kicked off on September 29 with a conference on the Vatel Mauritius campus, led by Djaved Fareed, Corporate Sustainability Manager at Constance Hotels, Resorts and Golf. Participants had the opportunity to learn how sustainability is practically applied in the hotel sector through examples and best practices employed by hotels to reduce environmental impact and optimize energy consumption. They also explored the issues of sustainable tourism, familiarizing themselves with tools and frameworks such as the Global Code of Ethics for Responsible Tourism (GCET), the ILO Guidelines on Decent Work and Socially Responsible Tourism, and the Code of Corporate Governance. This knowledge will help them integrate a more conscious and responsible approach into their future professional practice.

As part of this initiative, a beach cleanup operation was held on October 4 at Flic-en-Flac. This initiative raised awareness among participants about the importance of adopting responsible behaviors within tourism. By translating theoretical knowledge into tangible actions, Vatel Mauritius once again demonstrated its unique educational approach, combining academic teaching, practical engagement, and environmental awareness.

"Sustainable tourism is not just about greener infrastructure or environmental labels; it fundamentally relies on the skills and values of the youth being trained today. At Vatel Mauritius, we believe that sustainable tourism starts with education and commitment. Training professionals capable of combining service excellence, environmental responsibility, and cultural openness is at the heart of our mission, while preparing them to become engaged leaders who can implement these values to sustainably transform the tourism sector," stated Clara Rondelle-Wong, Marketing Manager.

Through these actions, Vatel Mauritius reaffirms its commitment to training a new generation of tourism professionals who are aware of their impact and determined to contribute to the sustainable transformation of the sector.
