Japan: Nationalist Sanae Takaichi Becomes First Woman to Lead Japanese Government
On Tuesday, October 21, Japan appointed its first female Prime Minister in history: nationalist Sanae Takaichi, who has already disappointed some hopes by appointing only two women ministers in her government.
At 64 years old, Ms. Takaichi was elected by both houses of the Japanese Parliament to succeed Shigeru Ishiba. Holding back her emotions, the new Prime Minister bowed several times in front of the parliament members.
