Richelieu Prison: 20-Year-Old Inmate Escapes Three Months Before Release
An inmate escaped from Richelieu Prison this Tuesday. Jonathan Christophe Beauyeux, aged 20, was nearing the end of his sentence and was set to regain his freedom in January. However, the young man chose to flee just three months before his scheduled release.
Prison authorities immediately launched a search operation. The prison management described the escape as "unexpected and concerning."
Contacted for comments, prison commissioner Dev Jokhoo warned that it is a serious offense to assist or harbor a fugitive.
This resident of Cité La Ferme, Bambous, had been convicted for theft. His last visit was on August 27, when his mother came to see him. His release was scheduled for January 16, 2026.
Search efforts continue to locate Jonathan Christophe Beauyeux. As of 3 p.m. on Tuesday, he was still on the run.
The young man now faces new charges. His escape could significantly extend his time behind bars.
Police are appealing to anyone with information about him to contact the nearest police station, the Prison Service Hotline at 5296 1000, or Richelieu Prison at 233 2820.
