Death of His Girlfriend in Anahita: Peter Wayne Roberts Requests Another Site Visit

South African businessman Peter Wayne Roberts is seeking $27.7 million from the state and nine police officers for "gross negligence" related to the death of his partner at Anahita in 2014.

One week after an initial site visit to Anahita Resort, ordered by the Supreme Court, businessman Peter Wayne Roberts requested another on-site visit on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, before Judge Denis Mootoo. This request is part of his lawsuit for damages against the Mauritian state.

Peter Wayne Roberts is demanding $27.7 million (approximately Rs 1.25 billion) from the state, the police commissioner, and nine officers from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) for "gross negligence" in connection with the death of his partner, Lee-Ann Palmarozza, in December 2014. He is represented by Me Rishi Pursem, Senior Counsel, assisted by Me Rishi Bhoyroo and Me Meghna Jeetah Singh. The defendants are represented by Me Odile Ombrasine, Assistant Parliamentary Counsel, and Me Jihad Nazir, Senior State Counsel.

At the start of the hearing, Me Pursem requested that a site visit be organized in the presence of the judge. Me Ombrasine then asked for a postponement to consult her clients and obtain their instructions. The Court agreed and set the next hearing for November 27, 2025, by which time the defendants' position must be communicated. The events date back to December 30, 2014, when Lee-Ann Palmarozza was found dead in the main pool of the Anahita Resort. Peter Wayne Roberts was arrested on January 2, 2015, while preparing to leave Mauritius to attend his partner's funeral.

Charged with murder, he spent 15 months in preventive detention before being acquitted by a jury in April 2016 in the Assize Court. He claims to have suffered significant financial and moral damages due to this arrest and detention, which he deems illegal.

In another lawsuit against Anahita Residence & Villas Limited (ARVL), Peter Wayne Roberts is claiming $3 million (approximately Rs 136 million). This case is set to be heard in May 2026.
