Pink October: Let's Walk Against Breast Cancer at Ébène Recreational Park

In this month of Pink October, dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer, the focus is on prevention and adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risks associated with this disease.

In this spirit, the Lions Club Ébène and the NGO PAPIM are joining forces to organize a "Pink October Awareness Walk" this Saturday, October 25th, starting at 4:30 PM at Ébène Recreational Park.

The event will begin with presentations about the missions of PAPIM and the Lions Club Ébène, followed by a talk led by an oncologist. Participants will then take part in a one-hour walk, which is open to the general public.

For nearly ten years, PAPIM has been implementing initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle in the fight against cancer. This includes regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and early screening.

"Every action is a step closer in the fight against cancer. This walk aims to emphasize prevention, honor survivors, and pay tribute to those who have succumbed to the disease," explains Tasneem Khedarun, president of PAPIM.

For her, this walk is also a way to affirm that cancer is no longer a taboo subject: it must be talked about to be better fought.

Fabrice Aza, president of the Lions Club Ébène, shares the same vision. "We define ourselves as Lions in the field, with a mission to serve, inspire, and transform. Through this awareness walk, we want to highlight prevention during this symbolic month. Together with PAPIM and in the presence of the president of the Mauritius Oncologists Association, we will listen to the voice of science, then walk, step by step, for prevention, for hope, for life," he says.
