Seized Monkeys Case: Hammerhead International Ltd Holds Firm

Hammerhead International Ltd intends to take its case to the Privy Council. The company is contesting a Supreme Court ruling that dismissed its request for judicial review regarding a decision made by the Ministry of Agro-Industry.

The "letter of intent" initially granted to the company for a project involving the breeding and export of monkeys intended for biomedical research was revoked. Hammerhead International Ltd's actions also involve the National Parks and Conservation Service and the Rose Belle Sugar Estate Board.

The Supreme Court is set to examine this new request next Monday.

This case dates back to March 19, 2023, when 446 monkeys were seized. According to the company, this seizure was carried out without prior notice, without a legal warrant, and without official documents.
