On RadioPlus: Mohamed and Juman Discuss the Controversy Surrounding the ICC and Their Altercation at Camp-Yoloff
On RadioPlus, Housing and Land Minister Shakeel Mohamed and Labour MP Eshan Juman spoke over the phone this Saturday morning during the show La Voix Maurice, hosted by Nawaz Noorbux.
They discussed the controversy surrounding the Islamic Cultural Centre (ICC) following the release of a report from the inquiry committee set up to clarify allegations of manipulation in the organization of the pilgrimage to Mecca. The two politicians also revisited their verbal altercation that took place at Camp-Yoloff last Sunday.
Eshan Juman, who spoke first, called for the resignation of Shamad Ayoob Saab, the president of the ICC. He stated that despite repeated criticisms over the years, "nothing has changed in the organization of the Hajj," which he described as "business as usual."
This statement came after a press conference held on Thursday by Shamad Ayoob Saab, where he accused Eshan Juman of interfering in the centre's internal affairs.
Shakeel Mohamed, for his part, sought to clarify the situation, reminding listeners that he does not have direct authority over ICC staff. He added that "a report alone is not sufficient to impose sanctions."
According to him, no wrongdoing is explicitly mentioned against the board members in the report, and protocols must be followed before any decisions are made.
Addressing the incident at Camp-Yoloff, Eshan Juman acknowledged a verbal exchange with Shakeel Mohamed but insisted there are no personal disputes between them, even referring to the minister as a "mentor."
Lastly, when questioned about articles in the Sunday Times, the MP defended the weekly publication, describing it as "independent and not influenced by anyone."
