Legalization of Cannabis: Kolektif 420 Applies Pressure

Kolektif 420 organized a peaceful march on Saturday in the streets of Port Louis, gathering a small group of participants. The procession started from the Marie Reine de la Paix center and made its way to the Jardin de la Compagnie, where their demands were reiterated.

The demonstrators called for the legalization of cannabis, which they believe would help curb the spread of synthetic drugs in the country. They also demanded the resignation of Sam Lauthan, who has faced regular criticism for his handling of the issue. According to Danilo Spéville, a member of the collective, the president of the National Agency for Drug Control "has not yet taken strong actions to tackle synthetic drugs."

Present at the event, Bruneau Laurette expressed support for the Kolektif 420's initiative, advocating not for legalization but for the decriminalization of cannabis. He simultaneously calls for the establishment of standard detox centers for drug users.

On his part, François Henri from Cure Mauritius reminded everyone of cannabis’s therapeutic potential. He stated that proposals for its legalization have already been submitted to the government and believes some of these measures could be implemented in Mauritius.
