Content: The Luchmun family in Mon Désir, Vacoas, is experiencing a tremendous tragedy. One of their own, Amrita, aged 69, succumbed to her injuries four days after being involved in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday, October 21.

On that day, around 11:30 AM, while she was cleaning the sidewalk in front of her house, she was struck head-on by a vehicle that veered onto the sidewalk while trying to avoid a collision with a van.

Local residents rushed to her aid before transporting her urgently to Candos Hospital.

The drivers of the vehicles involved fled the scene after the accident.

Mukesh Junglee, a witness to the incident, claims to have seen a car speeding towards Candos. According to him, the driver was overtaking several vehicles before hitting Amrita Luchmun, who was on the sidewalk. She was reportedly thrown about ten meters away.

"About 150 meters back, he was overtaking. I saw the driver. He kept going, overtaking again, and then I learned he had caused an accident below. He was coming down from Vacoas, and he overtook on the white line. I witnessed this with my own eyes," he recounts.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old mechanic residing in Vacoas, was driving from La Caverne towards Candos. According to his version, a vehicle had stopped abruptly. When he attempted to overtake it, he was surprised by a van doing the same maneuver. To avoid a collision, he swerved to the right, striking Amrita Luchmun. The police investigation is ongoing.

Amrita Luchmun was unmarried and served as the president of the Arya Sabha. Her niece, Nitisha, speaks of a tremendous loss for the family:

"Her death has shaken the entire family. She was living with us. After the accident, she underwent two operations, but unfortunately, we lost her. We need justice."
