Controversy Surrounding the Landing of the Malagasy Private Jet: Gilbert Noël Resigns from Airport Holdings Ltd, Mauritius Helicopter Ltd, and Jet Prime Ltd
Gilbert Noël is no longer a member of the boards of Airport Holdings Ltd, Mauritius Helicopter Ltd, and Jet Prime Ltd. He submitted his resignation from these three companies on October 24.
In his resignation letter, he explained that he had recently been the subject of a negative media campaign, particularly in his capacity as a board member of Jet Prime Ltd, due to the fact that the management of Jet Prime Ltd had undertaken a life-saving emergency evacuation in Madagascar following a military coup.
Gilbert Noël's name was mentioned during a press conference held by Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger two weeks ago. This press conference addressed the controversy surrounding the landing of a private jet from Madagascar on the night of October 12, which was carrying former Malagasy Prime Minister Christian Ntsay, who had been ousted a week earlier, and Maminiaina Ravatomanga, known as Mamy, a powerful businessman and close advisor to former President Andry Rajoelina. Maminiaina Ravatomanga is currently under investigation by the Financial Crimes Commission on suspicion of money laundering.
Gilbert Noël defends himself, stating, "When the landing permits were issued in accordance with legal requirements, I briefly greeted the family at the Jet Prime Ltd premises. At no point did I intervene with the relevant civil aviation authorities or the Passport and Immigration Office regarding the landing permits and/or related rights. It was a relief to know that the family in question was safe. As a legal professional, my priority is to represent my clients with courage and integrity," he wrote in his resignation letter.
Gilbert Noël finally asserts that he cannot accept having his integrity questioned or being subjected to cynicism.
